| POUGHKEEPSIE – The Budget and Finance Committee of the Dutchess County Legislature, approved asking the state legislature to allow it to continue charging an additional three-quarters of one percent local sales tax.If approved in the end, it would not increase the county sales tax, but maintain it at the current level.
County Legislator James Doxsey suggested the time is right to roll it back to save consumers money. “This would be a perfect time to reel back taxes in Dutchess County. That three-quarters of a percent, it’s not an increase, it is truly an extension, but to reel this back to three percent and give the Dutchess county residents some relieve, would be the perfect time to not extend this,” he said. Legislature Chairman Robert Rolison said the county would lose millions if the extra tax lapsed. Specifically, he said the county would lose $2 million in 2010 and $26 million in 2011. The full county legislature did approve the measure. Doxsey Writes: This happened a few months ago, relief was my intentions, I voted NOT to extend this Tax, people need relief As Soon As Possible. Senator Steven Saland voted also in favor to Extend this and it passed State Legislation. When will the Leaders get it, what else do we have to do to get rid of failed Legislators? |

Tuesday evening, the Dutchess County Legislature voted to put off allowing the people to weigh in on the 2012 Budget until after Elections? This Budget comes out every Halloween Eve, guess it’s Trick or Treat time. After all, where is the Transparency and how can they be judged after pulling a scheme like this?
Well, they can’t be judged, not this term coming up. Waiting until after the 2012 Budget is presented, then not allowing YOU- the Voters to weigh in on it, is plain wrong and dishonest at the minimum. They even CHANGED the date of the regular meeting for a week later just to NOT allow the Public to speak on it.
The response was they needed time to take it all in? Really, 9 days until you can respond to something that will have a Negative Impact on everyone who lives, works or worships in Dutchess County?
Better look to see who voted in favor of this one, you can be sure it wasn’t me!
